A need exists within universities, polytechnics and other educational establishments, for computers which are specifically designed for teaching purposes, particularly in the promotion of understanding how computers can be organized to process programs. Economically, it often makes more sense to design a teaching machine and then simulate it on an existing installation than to acquire a separate purpose‐built computer. This paper describes a simulation program that has been devised, and is currently in operation on the ICL 1907 at the University of Southampton, and comments on its power and use in the teaching situation.
