Ultrathin 2D nanolayers of RuO 2 on TiO 2 as heterogeneous epitaxy with effective enhancement to photochemical charge separation are reported. The RuO 2 /TiO 2 heterojunction can be prepared on a large scale driven by a low degree of lattice misfit between the host and guest materials. Owing to the increased interface compatibility and contact areas, the photochemical and photoelectrochemical performances of TiO 2 can be highly improved.
