Buckyball bearings : C 60 complexes with zinc octaethylporphyrin (ZnOEP) were deposited in the hexagonal pores of the highly stable honeycomb network generated by thermal dehydrogenation of 4,9‐diaminoperylene‐quinone‐3,10‐diimine on a Cu(111) surface (see picture). The piece‐by‐piece assembly of the weakly aggregated ZnOEP–C 60 complex, which may be viewed as a “supramolecular bearing”, was achieved with the aid of an STM tip.
