The cover picture shows conically shaped gold nanowires prepared by template synthesis in correspondingly conically shaped nanopores in a polymeric membrane. An electrochemical method applied during pore etching allows for control over the cone angle of the pore. Such abiotic nanopores are especially promising for biosensing applications.
