Holey cylinders : Porous anodic alumina has been prepared for the first time in a cylindrical form (see figure). Such a material offers the opportunity of preparing microscale needles with a nanoporous surface. The overall shape of the material can be controlled by selecting a particular shape for the precursor Al wire, and thus straight and spring‐shaped cylinders with controlled helicity can be prepared.
