A simple approach to prepare unsupported, well‐aligned zinc silicate nanowires along the channels of surfactant‐assembled mesoporous silica under hydrothermal conditions is described. The nanowires, which have relatively uniform diameters (7–10 nm, see HRTEM image) that are similar to the pore diameter of the template, exhibit strong green luminescence when doped with Mn ions.
