Nanocrystalline TiO 2 photocatalysts : We have synthesized highly crystalline TiO 2 nanocrystals by the controlled sol–gel reaction of titanium tetraisopropoxide in aqueous solution at room temperature. Anatase nanorods, spherical anatase nanocrystals, and rutile nanorods were synthesized (see HRTEM image of the latter). The anatase nanorods show much better photocatalytic activities for Eosin Y, phenol photooxidation, and E. coli inactivation than Degussa P‐25.
