The third generation of metal‐organic frameworks responds to the advent of a guest molecule and on the application of external stimuli such as temperature, light, mechanical stress, and pressure. They are used in separation, sensing, drug delivery, gas storage, catalysis, etc due to their ability to make adjustments in their pore size. This review covers the basic details of flexible MOFs such as synthesis, recent approaches in controlling flexibility, and some applications in detail.
