A new strategy for the straightforward alkylation of heteroarenes under mild conditions was developed. It employed silver catalyst for the cross dehydrogenative coupling between heteroarenes and cyclic ethers to construct a new C(sp 2 )−C(sp 3 ) bond. This reaction was carried out in water under room temperature and applicable to various heteroarenes such as pyridines, quinolines and isoquinolines derivatives with good functional group compatibility.
