The cover picture shows the concept of surface plasmon resonance from Au nanostructures in action. At the resonance frequency, the free electron clouds of the nanoparticles collectively oscillate in coherence with the electric field with strong scattering of incident light along with the orders of magnitude local amplification of scattered light. Encapsulating Au nanostructures in organically modified sol‐gel glasses afford AurOrGlass, a class of materials endowed with unique optical properties whose behaviour is governed by key nanochemistry and physical principles addressed in this article.
