A Cu‐catalyzed remote C—H nitration of indolines by the use of cheap and green tert ‐butyl nitrite as an organo‐nitro surrogate has been reported. The reactions were performed at room temperature under air conditions without any other oxidant. The method exhibited high regioselective, direct nitration of indolines at the C5 position.
