A new series of (1H‐tetrazole‐1‐yl) anthracene‐9,10‐dione was proposed with the cyclisation amino‐anthraquinones, triethyl orthoformate and sodium azide in the presence of catalytic amount of p‐Toluenesulfonic acid (p‐TSA) in acetic acid at ambient temperature. Desired products were synthesized in good yields. Chemical structures containing the tetrazolo anthraquinone framework were identified using FT‐IR, 1 H and 13 C NMR spectroscopy, Mass spectra, elementary analysis, and melting points. Additionally, DNA‐binding activities of these compounds were studied using UV‐Vis electron‐absorption spectra.
