A biomass oil, botryococcene (( E )‐2,3,7,10,13,16,20,21‐octamethyl‐6,17‐dimethylene‐10‐vinyldocosa‐1,11,21‐triene), produced from microalga “Botryococcus braunii ” was epoxidized by Prilezaev reaction using excess amount of m ‐chloroperoxybenzoic acid under mild conditions for the purpose of applicative derivatizations of the oil. The oil underwent epoxidations at the C2,6,17,21‐positioned four vinylidenes and C11‐12 vinylene site‐selectively except the electronically inactive C10‐vinyl, giving the botryococcene pentaepoxide in high yield.
