NIS‐Initiated Cyclization of Pyridines with Methyl Ketones and Alkenoic Esters for the Synthesis of Indolizines under Metal‐Free Conditions

An efficient synthesis of indolizines was developed via NIS‐initiated three‐component reaction of pyridines, methyl ketones and alkenoic esters in the presence of substoichiometric amount of 2,2,6,6‐tetramethylpiperidine‐1‐oxyl (TEMPO) under oxygen atmosphere. A wide range of substrates could be applied and gave the desired products in good yields under metal‐free conditions with high atom and step‐economy.
