The vicinal dioxygenation of aryl alkenes is reported using N ‐hydroxylamines and air in the presence of potassium persulfate (K 2 S 2 O 8 ). The alkene is first oxidized to β ‐aminoxy alkyl hydroperoxide, which is in situ reduced to the diol using molybdenum hexacarbonyl [Mo(CO) 6 ] and base. Metal‐free, aerobic conditions and the substrate scope are the important practical features.
