This manuscript describes a mechanistically novel method to generate α‐iodo α,β‐unsaturated aldehydes from iodoallenes. Sodium azide and iodine work in concert to effect this addition‐rearrangement‐elimination cascade under mild conditions without the generation of the explosive IN 3 reagent. This transition‐metal‐free method offers an operationally simple protocol to achieve this transformation expeditiously.
