Abstract Synthesis of pyrrolo(2,3‐ c )coumarin derivatives was achieved from 3‐aminocoumarins, arylglyoxals and 4‐hydroxycoumarin using 20 mol% molecular iodine as a catalyst through one‐pot three‐component reaction. The products were isolated without aqueous work‐up or column chromatography in good yields. The present protocol is an efficient synthetic route to access various substituted pyrrolo(2,3‐ c )coumarin derivatives in large scale.
