A new family of [V 6 O 19 ] 8− cluster based covalent hybrids containing Tris functionalized (Tris=tris(hydroxymethyl)aminomethane) organic motifs such as naphthalene, quinoline and carbazole have been synthesized and characterized. These new vanadium cluster hybrids exhibited remarkable in vitro antioxidant properties under standard experimental conditions. The covalent grafting of the organic units enhanced the antioxidant properties of the hybrids in comparison to the starting compound, [H 3 V 10 O 28 ] 3− . The antioxidant properties exhibited by these hybrids correlated well with their reducing powers.
