An efficient and neat procedure for N ‐acylation of anilines has been developed using 5‐(un)substituted Meldrum's acids as acyl surrogates under neutral conditions in excellent yields. This protocol features a solvent‐free and catalyst‐free acylation process, and enables facile access to a vast array of structurally versatile sec ‐ and tert ‐anilides.
