Open chain D‐glucosyl alkyl/aryl ketones synthesized from readily available D‐ gluco ‐configured building block, under acidic conditions, cyclize to hitherto inaccessible 5‐acylated‐2‐hydroxymethyl‐furans in moderate to good yields.
