Unprotected Polyphenols in Substitution Reactions with 4‐Acetoxy–azetidinones.

The reaction of 4‐acetoxy‐azetidinone and (3 R ,4 R )‐4‐acetoxy‐3‐[(1 R )‐1‐( tert ‐butyldimethylsilyloxy) ethyl] azetidin‐2‐one with unprotected polyphenols in aqueous solution was studied. Different ratios of mono‐azetidinone and bis‐azetidinone adducts were obtained depending on the reaction conditions. Regio‐ and chemoselectivity was achieved. Selected compounds were tested for antibacterial and antioxidant activities.
