In a recent issue Benichou provided an excellent comprehensive review on adjustment methods for estimating attributable risk (AR) in the framework of case‐control studies. Its didactic nature illustrating all theoretical considerations using data from the Ille‐et‐Vilaine study ensures that Benichou's paper will soon be one of the leading references on AR estimation. It closes the gap between Walter's classic methodologic review paper 1 on AR and more modern developments during the 1980's in this evolving area. Additional comments in this letter may help to clarify further some issues discussed in the paper.
