The early stages of Cu and Fe metal growth on respectively Fe and Cu polycrystalline substrates have been studied at room temperature by photoemission spectroscopy. Analysis of the Cu3p and Fe3p core levels peaks intensity as a function of the metal overlayer coverages has been made for both systems. Formation of the first atomic layer followed by clusters aggregation has been detected as the mode of growth for Cu on Fe as well as for Fe on Cu. Previous results obtained by UV‐photoemission have been confirmed with the evidence for the absence of interdiffusion and surface alloy formation at the interface.
