Abstract A simple, fast and convenient cryogenic method is described for avoiding post‐treatment oxidation and preserving the sample chemistry of iron during transfer from aqueous solution to ultrahigh vacuum (UHV) surface analysis instrumentation. It is recommended that others try this method and report on its wider applicability.
