Model supports consisting of a thin layer of SiO 2 on a silicon single crystal have been used to study ZrO 2 /SiO 2 /Si model systems made by the same wet chemical preparation methods as used in the preparation of technical catalysts. The results obtained with the models are in good agreement with those on ZrO 2 catalysts on porous silica supports.
