A recent report (G. Moretti et al., Surf. Interface Anal. 14, 325 (1989)) in this journal has used XPS to show unequivocally that surface enrichment of calcined CuO x /ZnO co‐precipitates does not occur substantially; here, similar evidence for samples of low Cu content suggests that surface enrichment by copper does occur. This is an important finding for model precursors of methanol synthesis catalysts.
