Concentration profiles of chromium are investigated by SIMS and XPS in single crystals and polycrystalline solid solutions of chromium in CoO and in the CoCr 2 O 4 spinel. Annealing at high temperatures favours Cr segregation if the oxygen partial pressure is low. The extent of segregation is more pronounced in single crystals. The enrichment depth is comparatively large and the enrichment factor increases with decreasing Cr bulk concentrations.
