AES study of thermal behaviour of Sb‐doped Sn‐oxide coatings

The unique properties of doped tin oxide films (high transparency in the visible region, high reflectance in the infra red region, low emissivity and nearly metallic conductivity) have been extensively studied since the sixties. Their main application consists of transparent and conductive coatings on glass. The present study deals with thick films prepared by means of spray deposition of SnCl//4-SbCl//3 solutions at 500 degree C on alumina substrates. The thickness varied from 1 to 10 mu m, so that a sheet resistance of 1 ohm/cm**2 can be obtained. These films permit high-temperature applications, such as heating elements or electrodes for melting. AES results has indicated that the composition changes, observed at 1200 degree C using bulk analysis methods, already started at a lower temperature in the first atomic layers. Furthermore AES emphasized that the contact between the SnO//2-Sb crystals and the ambient atmosphere strongly influenced the degradation of the microstructure and the electrical properties of the coatings.SCOPUS: ar.jFLWNAinfo:eu-repo/semantics/publishe
