Poly(methyl methacrylate)/organo‐montmorillonite (PMMA/OMt) nanocomposites containing 2% and 5% OMt by mass were prepared using the solution blending method with sonication. X‐ray diffraction, thermal gravimetric analysis, transmission electron microscopy, and inverse gas chromatography (IGC) were used for characterization of the nanocomposites. IGC studies were operated at infinite dilution, in the temperature range of 40 to 70 °C. The dispersive component of surface free energies of PMMA and PMMA/OMt nanocomposite systems was calculated by using the Lavielle–Schultz method. Copyright © 2016 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.
