The effect of incorporating zirconium dioxide in TiO 2 mesoporous films was investigated. Improved stability of the mesoporous structure of the synthesized TiO 2 /ZrO 2 nanocomposites could be related to the suppression of titania crystallites growth and the formation of Ti 1− x Zr x O 2 solid solution, as was inferred by the results of optical properties, AFM, XRD and XPS investigations.
