The calculated electron‐optical properties of a mirror type electrostatic electron spectrometer are presented. The analyzer consists of two cylinders without axial symmetry. We show that a spectrometer having such a construction has second‐order focusing properties with remarkable dispersion. Copyright © 2006 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.
