A 10‐bit active‐matrix display driver with pulse width modulation (PWM) is proposed for driving passive matrix liquid crystal displays. Each display pixel is connected to the corresponding CMOS pixel circuit of the display driver and is driven by the corresponding pixel circuit to achieve more display power efficient and low cost. The pixel circuit includes a set of data latches, a PWM generator, and a buffer for latching pixel image data, converting the image data into PWM signals, and driving corresponding display pixels. The frame rate of the display driver is 100 frames per second, and the clock frequency is 110 KHz. The whole chip area is 3.77 × 2.78 mm 2 , and the pixel size is 83 × 67 µm 2 .
