In recent months we have begun to witness the introduction of Augmented Reality Head Up Displays in the latest vehicles, thus far these devices have employed conventional display technologies such as LCDs or DMDs. However, the large display areas & high pixel counts associated with AR‐HUDs present a number of challenges for the incumbent technologies. Dynamic holography is an alternative display technology which has been maturing rapidly over the past decade. The application of this technology to AR‐HUD has a number of distinct advantages most notably that its image formation process enables a number of different architectures reducing the barrier to integration.
