A novel polarizer system that modifies only the bottom polarizer has been developed to reduce the off‐axis light leakage of LCDs. A 13‐inch prototype using the new polarizer system has successfully reduced off‐axis light leakage to 60% that of a conventional polarizer system. The new polarizer system is useful to weaken halo artifacts of HDR backlights.
