Pixel per inch(PPI) is by far the most widely used term to represent the resolution of a display. It is very useful in traditional pixel arrangements that are shaped rectangle and arranged in a simple but regular fashion along uniformly drawn vertical and horizontal lines. However, with the introduction of new pixel arrangements in the display starting from the pentile pixel structure displays, PPI has seen difficulties in some cases. To solve this problem, we propose a new representation, pixel per area(PPA) that conceptualize the density of pixels in a unit area (square inch). PPA is very simple to calculate and can be easily converted to PPI by taking square roots in traditional pixel arrangements.
