This paper presents an innovative smart TCON design using Field Programmable Gate Array (FPGA) devices. Instead of facing a massive challenge to deal with a large number of ASICs or ASSPs, a single FPGA is chosen based upon a resolution and refresh rate determined performance need. Leveraging its expanding logic programmability and performance, vendor and panel specific color volume conversion can be achieved with high efficiency. With its IO programmability, various video interfaces can be accommodated. The FPGA TCON is very adaptable to different panels and vendors.
