We demonstrated a modal control liquid crystal lens which can be controlled by amplitude and frequency of voltage to tune the focal length. By simulating the influence of the parameters on the potential distribution of the liquid crystal lens, the structural design parameters are optimized. The modal control liquid crystal lens with aperture size as 8mm, a driving voltage as 5Vrms and a focal length ranging from 0.56m to infinity by adjusting the frequency. It has the potential application of large aperture liquid crystal lens in optical devices.
