Display units that utilize a dimmable smart lens may be utilized to reduce the required luminance compared to a fixed neutral density lens to provide a hidden display appearance. A lens configuration that utilizes an active polarizer in conjunction with a linear polarizer has previously been developed and reported. The use of a segmented active polarizer dimmable lens with a unique border fade pattern is explored.
