Near‐to‐eye optical systems today place an unnecessary burden on display makers by challenging them to solve problems caused by poor optical design choices. Starting from human vision fundamentals, this paper will cover key display performance characteristics and requirements when coupled with proper optic design. This will demonstrate why display makers need to advocate for a more balanced, systemic, relationship with optical designers to define legitimate display criteria.
