Higher resolution is the key trend for next generation TV applications. One challenge is keeping the transmittance while pixel density increases. UBplus technology using LC mixtures with negative dielectric anisotropy offers a unique solution to this challenge in a classic FFS cell layout. This paper summarizes the recent developments of liquid crystal mixtures for UBplus in terms of performance and reliability.
