Nowadays, AMOLED keeps penetrating display market and the shipment of devices with AMOLED display is expected to grow above 800 million unit by 2021. In order to reduce the production cost, many panel makers have started paying more attention in RGB printing technology due to its higher utilization rate in material and lower production cost on equipment. In this article, current approach of RGB printing technology was introduced along with its current limitations in production. In the end, a production cost analysis was conducted on 55 inch 4k AMOLED display from Gen 8.5 line via RGB printing and WOLED method. Lower production cost on 55 inch product from printing method suggested once bottlenecks on RGB printing are removed, printed AMOLED Gen 8.5 line can compete with fully depreciated WOLED Gen 8.5 line in 3 years assuming both of them under same yielding rate and material maturity.
