Laser Phosphor Display (LPD) technology was introduced for commercial venues in 2011. The market requirement was for extremely large “megawalls” that are measured in feet vs. inches. In order to accomplish this requirement, tiled LPD, where the screen and light engine combined into a single tile, was conceived and developed in order to facilitate transportation and assembly of such “megawalls” into any venue. Though considered best in class in terms of bezel‐less screens, the tiles left a very small but perceptible gap after assembly, revealing the “seams” between the tiles. Recently, LPD technology achieved a breakthrough in screen panel making that eliminates the need to “tile” the screen component. Instead, the panel is one monolithic flexible, rollable, and detachable surface, allowing it to be transported and moved into any venue separate from the light engines. It is the first configurable, rollable large size (measured in feet) self‐emissive display technology that is not based on screen tiles. It also facilitates up close front viewing as well as user‐touch interactivity. This new screen technology maintained all the key benefits of LPD in terms high quality, real‐time video with low power consumption, long life and low cost manufacturing. In this paper, we will describe this new LPD screen technology, and its complementary light engine technology and their attributes in detail.
