We analyse the ambient contrast ratio (ACR) of LCDs and OLED displays at different viewing angles for smartphones, TVs, and public displays. Four primary factors affecting the ACR are surface reflection, light leakage of polarizer, device contrast ratio, and display brightness. Methods for enhancing the ACR of LCDs and OLEDs are discussed.
