The influence of illumination level on visual fatigue and lighting preference for young and elderly Chinese persons was studied while performing a paper reading task for 4 hours. Analysis of the subjective questionnaires and objective measurements showed that an illumination level ≥600lx is required for elderly and ≤600lx for young persons.
