We present the design of a new switchable multi‐focal lens which consists of a freeform lens and a programmable spatial light modulator (SLM). By rapidly switching the input light path through different segments of the freeform lens with the programmable SLM, multiple foci are created in a time‐multiplexed fashion. While the proposed multi‐focal lens method can have a broad range of applications in imaging and display systems, we experimentally demonstrate a proof of concept prototype for an imaging system.
