See‐through capability is an important performance indicator of transparent display. The visibility of the background is affected by the transmittance factor, haze, distance between the transparent display and an object in the background, and the illuminance. In this paper, the perceived see‐through level (PSL) is proposed to represent the degree of visibility of the background. The PSL is determined by considering both transmittance factor and haze. Experimental results indicate that the proposed PSL effectively describes the visibility of the background behind the transparent displays.
