We investigate theoretically and experimentally electrooptic effects in chiral nematic liquid crystals with small bend elastic constant. In the electric field, the director forms a conical helicoid with a controllable pitch and cone angle. The resulting optical Bragg reflector is electrically tunable from ultraviolet to infrared being applicable for displays, filters, and lasers.
