A semi‐empirical equation is developed to characterize the optical decay time of in‐plane switching (IPS) and fringe field switching (FFS) liquid crystal displays. Good agreement between simulation and experiment is obtained. Moreover, this equation provides a simple yet accurate method to measure the twist elastic constant K 22 of liquid crystals.
