Coherent backlight is an important component in holographic 3Ddisplays. In this paper, a novel coherent backlight featuring acompact design is presented. The feasibility of this structure isexperimentally verified by reconstructing 3D images with a spatiallight modulator. The diffraction efficiency of the system is ~4.3%.
