A new front light unit (FLU) that is based on a light guide plate (LGP) with a micro structure was developed as a flat front lighting source for electrophoretic, bi‐stable reflective display (e‐Paper) applications. Unlike a traditional flat FLU, which involves “air bonding” method, with the drawback of reflecting light from both sides of the LGP, degrading optical performance, a front light design with “direct adhesive bonding” method is proposed herein, which has the advantage of reducing light reflection and improving optical performance.
